LA FOLLIA  is just outside Paciano in Umbria, near the border with Tuscany.  It was once a farmer's dwelling and is in the traditional style of the area.  It has two storeys, each made into a self-contained apartment.  The upper floor was restored in the summer of 1990 and the ground floor was restored in 2007.  The whole house is available to rent; alternatively, each apartment can be individually rented.

Whole house sleeps 6/7
l
Upper floor sleeps 4/5
l
Ground floor sleeps 2

A utility room on the ground floor is available for residents in both apartments to use – it has a washing machine, ironing board & iron, drying rack and the central heating boiler; it is also the store for the garden furniture.

Both apartments are fully furnished and well-equipped.  The front door of the lower apartment is on the opposite side of the house from the steps leading to the upper apartment; however, if the house is rented as a whole, it is easy to move between floors as there is a second entrance into the ground floor near to the foot of the steps for the upper floor.

La Follia is part of a small hamlet, set in a rural landscape on the side of a hill studded with olive groves.  The property commands beautiful and extensive views on three sides, including to Lake Trasimeno about 4 miles away.  There is little traffic on the side road that passes the hamlet.  Peace and quiet prevail.

Day trips can readily be made to Florence, Rome, Siena, Perugia, Assisi and many other historic cities and towns.  Umbria, known as the “green heart of Italy”, is very scenic, full of tree-covered hills and river valleys.  The province is famous for its beautiful, old hill-towns such as Orvieto, Spoleto, Todi and Gubbio.

Nearer to La Follia there is plenty to enjoy too - trips on Lake Trasimeno, swimming in the lake or at local lidos, walking the hills, exploring the local towns and villages of the area, or just relaxing and drinking in the local atmosphere.  Paciano itself is a quiet, picturesque, hillside village, built around its mediaeval, walled core of narrow streets.  In the 1990s it was voted “the ideal village of Italy”!  There are several good value restaurants and pizzerias in the locality.
